Wearing medical jewelry can mean the difference between life and death by supplying critical health information to Emergency Medical Staff.  The brief information contained on your medical identification should give the technicians treating you enough insight to provide appropriate treatment for your condition.

 

What information should your medical ID contain?

  • Medical Identification jewelry should always contain the Caduceus or Star of Life symbol.  If one of these symbols is not present, medical staff may not recognize the jewelry as a medical alert and dismiss the critical information it contains.  
  • Any illness, medical conditions & allergies
  • Any important medications or types of medications you are taking - Adding specific medications could invalidate your medical id.  For example: If you are taking coumadin, you may wish to list blood thinners instead of coumadin.
  • At least one ICE (In Case of Emergency) name & phone number
